R-134a (tetrafluoroethane) is a medium‑ to low‑temperature, non‑ozone‑depleting HFC refrigerant with excellent overall performance. It contains no chlorine, does not damage the ozone layer, and offers good safety characteristics when handled properly.
Storage Conditions:
R-134a cylinders should be stored as pressurized containers, away from open flames, heat sources, and direct sunlight. Keep in a cool, dry, well‑ventilated area, and separate from incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers.
Main Applications:
R-134a is the most widely used environmentally friendly replacement for R‑12 in many refrigeration and air‑conditioning applications. It is commonly used in:
- Automotive air‑conditioning systems
- Central and residential air conditioners
- Refrigerators and freezers
- Commercial refrigeration, display cases, and cold rooms
- Ice machines, ice water coolers, and dehumidifiers
Beyond refrigeration, R‑134a can also be used as:
